Oleksandr Zinchenko: “We played for every Ukrainian!”

On 26 March, the Tarczynski Arena Wrocław hosted a match in the final of the play-offs for EURO 2024 between the national teams of Ukraine and Iceland. Our national team managed to win this match with a score of 2:1 and qualify for the EURO Championship, which will be held in Germany this summer. Ukraine’s half-back Oleksandr Zinchenko shared his emotions after the match.

“We expected such a tough game from Iceland. First of all, this team is very strong, it plays through counterattacks, uses its standards very well. But we still won. The atmosphere in the dressing room was incredible, the emotions were off the charts, today we all understood that the result came first because we played not only for ourselves and our families, but also for every Ukrainian. When we received messages from our military with words of support, we no longer needed to have any double motivation. Also, today there was incredible support at the stadium, which pushed us to go forward and score goals,” said Oleksandr Zinchenko.
