Chanel is ditching exotic leather
On December 3, at the presentation of the Pre-Fall 2019 Metiers d’Art, the Chanel fashion house announced that it no longer intends to use the skin of exotic animals in its collections.
Exotic leathers include leather: crocodile, lizard, snake and stingray. Chanel’s president , Bruno Pavlovsky, also said the brand is phasing out fur, which Chanel barely uses anyway.
The reason for this decision is that good quality leather that meets the brand’s standards is very difficult to find, so the Chanel fashion house intends to focus on making products from other materials.
But for Chanel, this decision is unlikely to have a significant profit impact.
